Airport Berlin Tempelhof. At the end of the runway there is a magic place where people come to take a look through the fence. In fact, the watching people are more interesting than the planes which land or take off. It seems that those people are the poor ones, without work, which certainly couldn’t even buy a ticket. They meet there and tell each other their dreams and stories with a bottle of cheap wine or some beers.

Nairobi 1980

I have a friend who was an accountant. His first job was for the council in Bexhill on Sea (known as the place for newly-weds and nearly-deads). One day he phoned me and said he had a new job and was moving and hoped we would still visit them. We said of course we would then he said it was in Nairobi…
I mentioned this to a colleague and he told me about seeing a magazine article on the best cheap flights. That, in 1980, resulted in us taking a Sudan Air flight via Frankfurt and Khartoum to Nairobi and staying with our friends for three weeks. Wonderful.
That was the start of our passion for travelling around the world.
Anyway… I took these photos from the top of the Kenyatta Intl Conference Center. I wonder how much it has changed?
