I have 40 computers here at school. Im planning to install a master unit with both Win XP and Fedora Linux. There are no problems cloning a xp-based partition. Im just curious where I can do it on a fedora linux installation under a separate parition and clone it to a new pc. All computers mentioned have the same specifications.

should be able to if u are using norton ghost ver. 10 and above.
here’s the one for the lastest version, norton ghost ver. 14.0
under system requirements

Ok, so I currently have Windows XP which is filled with crap. Idealistically I would like to wipe the Windows XP clean, start with a new slate, and then install Linux Ubuntu. If anyone could help other than just giving me the Linux Ubuntu website, I would really appreciate it.

Don’t be too hasty.

Start with just using the Ubuntu live CD and play around with it. See how it works with your hardware. See how you like the interface. Get to know your way around the menus. Use the live CD for a couple of weeks.

If you still like Ubuntu, use Wubi to set up a no-fuss dual-boot with Windows:

http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/wubi

If, after dual-booting for another two weeks, you still find yourself booting into Ubuntu exclusively, then you can just install Ubuntu over XP:

http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/installing

I have PS3 60 GB, and I have tried to install Linux. And when I have done, then I restarted my PS3. But when I did that, a black linux boot screen showed up instead of the the normal PS3 system. 1. Turn the PS3 off (into standby).
2. Turn it on by holding the PS3′s power button for about 5 seconds until you hear a second beep.
3. The PS3 will boot to the XMB OS and go back to default video settings.

Now that you’re back in the PS3′s XMB you can format the hard drive and remove linux (and its partition) from the hard drive. Back any PS3 game save files up before you do so, because they will all be deleted as well.

I bought a hard-drive for my laptop because my last one failed. The seller sent me a hard-drive that’s protected by Safeguard Easy 4.11, and he never gave me any of the information, and will no longer respond to my e-mails.

Can this situation be solved by installing Linux? If so what is the easiest version to install via CD-R?

Here is a link that says they can crack it.
Any version of linux can be burned to a cd and and used to boot and install.
I don’t know anything about safeguard but would assume if you deleted the partition and created a new partition safeguard would be removed unless it resides in the bios which I doubt.
The easiest way to delete and create a new partition is to use gparted especially if you are not really interested in installing linux. Read the instructions for best results.

Yes. Mint is just a derivative of Ubuntu. I just installed it on my HP DV6000, and I like it a lot.

There’s no real exact list of what you would need to create a “distribution.” To have a “working” Linux system, you only need:

- The Linux kernel
- A file system, such as a hard drive, floppy, or ramdisk
- A statically linked program at /sbin/init

A more functional system would also have:

- Device nodes in /dev
- An actual init program and scripts
- A swap partition or swap file
- A shell, such as Bash, ash, ksh, etc…
- Utilities such as ls, pwd, cp, mv, ps, mount, dmesg, ed (*snicker*), tail, etc…
