I read once that new fares are posted at a certain time on a certain day for the week, and that right then is the best time to snag the limited number of really low fare seats, but I can’t remember when it was.

I’m not sure of your age, but if you’re under 26 then I recommend STA travel (www.statravel.com) and Student Universe (www.studentuniverse.com) because they offer youth airfare which is discounted. Otherwise, I’d try an overall comparison site, like Yahoo Farechaser or Side Step, because they’ll compare multiple sites and airlines.

I need a real cheap place to buy a cheap ticket to Greece. I haven’t been on an airplain in my life and would also like to know what I can expect on the plan. Thank you for your answers.

It all depends on your point of departure and point of arrival to Greece. Most ‘low budget” Airlines fly between most International Airports. Try to get a ticket with a low budget airline that flies directly to your chosen destination within Greece as internal flights in Greece can be costly. Without knowing the country of your departure, I cannot be more specific in my answer. I hope this helps.

Your best option is usually to go directly to the carrier, such as AeroMexico. No sense in paying commission to Expedia or any of the others.

I’m planning a trip out to Austin, TX for a Music Conference that goes from March 15th to March 21st. I’m planning to arrive there on March 14th & plan to leave (or get back here to NYC) on March 21st (I’m not planning to go to the last event of the conference.). I’ve checked Priceline, Travelocity, etc. Most of them have expensive prices like $ 689 round trip on either Priceline or Travelocity (I don’t remember which one.). Although, when I went to Kayak.com I saw $ 220 Airfare & couldn’t believe what I was seeing (I chose Hotwire & some other Low Fare engine to compare each other to that Kayak.com has you do.). Now, I’m assuming the Air Fare is Actually $ 440 WITHOUT the Hotel?? Right? I mean, last yr. I went to Nashville (late July) & I paid $ 467 from Orbitz.com, but wasn’t aware that even though I was checking under the Lowest Fares under the “Flight & Hotel” Category I thought $ 467 INCLUDED the Hotel Stay (Duhhh…etc.). Only to learn that when I got to Nashville I found out that the Hotel was SEPARATE from the Air Fare. SO…etc.:
1) When is the Best time to purchase these Air Fare (& Hotel) Tickets for my March trip (now, Jan., Feb. or 1st week of March) for a LOW – CHEAP PRICE (Under $ 500)?
2) What IS a Travel Package – How does this work?
OR
3) What does a “Flight & Hotel” Category do for you when it seems like I was paying SEPARATELY (Hotel & Air Fare)?
Please let me know. I really don’t know how this system works.

Kayak is a great search engine for well priced flights. It used to always be my starting point. You’ll want to purchase your tickets at least 21 days prior to departure because you’ll be eligible for the 21+ days advance purchase fares. You don’t really let us know your departure airport, so its hard to let you know what the best airfare is for that time frame. I would assume that Flight & Hotel first prices your for your flight, then allows you to select a hotel also for that trip and pay for them together at the end (so the price you see at first would only be your flight) which would be similar to visiting a travel agent, them pricing you a flight, then pricing you a hotel. As far as a travel package, they all include different things. Some will include, hotel, meals, airfare, car rental, tickets to events, while others may only include only some things. It really depends on the package.
