any fo the major travel sites, expedia, orbitz, travelocity, cheaptickets.
if you’re gonna buy tickets, buy them today. tues and wed have the cheapest tics.
we payed around 500 dollar a ticket, but right now tickets might be more expensive cause of spring break.

There is not really such a thing as a low low price anymore, and it depends on where you are leaving from, going to, and when..
Generally speaking, I use kayak.com, jetblue and SW to get a fare baseline…

The prices that are showing up on the major travel websites (such as www.travelocity.com, www.expedia.com, www.orbitz.com, etc.) are likely the cheapest that you are going to see, short of trying to bid on a price through Priceline. The 23rd is one of the busiest travel days of the year — if not THE busiest — and it’s likely that all of the cheap fares are gone.
Airlines have little incentive to lower the prices as we get closer to the holidays as well, because they know people are going to travel and will pay the prices offered.

Most search engines (travelocity, orbitz, etc) start with the travel dates. I don’t know the travel dates because I want to travel when the fares are low. Is there a search tool that works this way?

i think it depends entirely where you are travelling from and where you are travelling to.
www.ryanair.co.uk works a bit like that, I used to used fly with them all the time cheap.
