I have a Toshiba L305 laptop currently installed with Windows 7 and i want to switch to Linux but i am wondering if i will have the functionality of my webcam. I am so sick and tired of windows right now its killing me.

Considering a PC is ONLY as smart as its user, don’t blame Windows. 95% of peoples computer troubles are caused by themselves. Good luck on finding a linux driver for your cam.

I’m totally new to Linux, being a somewhat expert-level windows user. I’m trying to install an old boxed version of Linux Redhat version 7.2 I found on a shelf in my basement. dude, 7.2 is too old. it is junk compared to the new linux.

hey just open ur cabinet and check whether ur harddisk is properly connected.. jus check whether the cable is plugged in well.. i dont see any other problem

I am trying to install Linux xp by fedora redhat and it is telling me that I need to specify a swap partition.
Off of a 160GB HD I have partitioned 40GB for the Linux as a secondary OS I have created a (/) and a (/home) for it now its telling me to specify a swap partition how do i do this?

The swap partition is just like virtual memory(Paging Files)in XP or some space which is needed twice the size of physical memory or RAM. this space is used by linux to store files when your RAM is loaded fully. you can create this partition during installation of linux by simply selecting the space on your hard disk and select /swap from the drop down box.

So I’ve finished installing RedHat into VMware and when I click “Start this virtual Machine” I get this error message:

Could not CreateProcess: Failed to logon to specified account for VM.

What does this mean and how can I fix it?

I think it may have to do with the fact that (although I’ve registered 3 different times and acquired multiple serial numbers) none of the serial numbers are recognized for VMWare. no idea why?

I bought a Acer Aspire 5004 NWLMI. Windows XP Professional is already installed. I downloaded the RHEL 4(AS) from a torrent site. I then burned the image to the cd using Nero 7. And when i boot the using the CD, the following things happen (the problem is the last thing)
1. it show ISO Linux 2.xx and boots the system
2. Then it show Redhat Enterprise Linux
- To Install or Upgrade in graphical mode, press enter key
-……………
3. I chose the enter key
4. Then it says loading vmlinuz…………
Loading initrd.img………………………
Then it detects all hardware and harddisk….(All the harddisk and the dvd drive is detected.)
5. Then it continues to the last stage saying
loading /sbin/install
running installer
loading /sbin/loader
after that the screen turns black the system stops responding…… There is no harddisk activity nor cd activity in the system.
What should i do? i tried booting the system using linux dd, linux noprobe…. but the same result…

Three things to try. When you get to the boot screen press F2 or F3 for boot options. Try “linux text” or whatever the option is for no graphical installer.

Two, go to Redhat.com and sign up for a trial as you’ll need a license number to register your system and do updates.

Three, go to http://www.centos.org and download an ISO there. CentOS is based on the Redhat EL family but is free for you to use. If the same thing happens with that use the text installer. GUI installers can be picky about certain video chipset/LCD combos. When your screen goes black it could just be the video going out of sync.
