We have found that there are not a whole lot of consumer-level devices out there made for an easy Linux backup solution. Anyone out there have a great setup that includes a portable backup that they can move offsite?

Hi. I have a DELL PowerEdge 2950 server running Windows Server OS. I need to install RedHat LINUX 64bit on it. I already have the RedHat CD-ROMS, but there is nothing on them about being 32bit or 64bit. So, how do I make sure the LINUX installation is actually 64bit (to take advantage of 4GB of RAM). Is there an option to choose during RedHat install?
DELL site says their processors are 64bit capable. Thanks.

If you bought the discs with a 64bit kernel, they will be 64 bit.
Just put in the discs, one at a time, in order and follow the screen directions.

it is definitely possible I wish i could give you better answer but have you thought using SE Linux , it is more of a firewall than RH, i advise to use LOCKIT app. and also make sure that Ubuntu is gutsy for extra incription

I have a need to host some web sites, and have been trying to do so with an evaluation copy of Server 2k3. And while I have been able to get more than a few simple sites up, I am having trouble doing anything advanced, like setting up a simple in and out bound mail server, or getting PHP scripts to run.

One option I am considering is seeing if there is a SIMPLE (meaning totally newby friendly) Linux build that might work.

Does anyone have a recommendation on a Linux build that would include a web server, mail server and php compiler (or whatever the appropriate term is) that someone who has NEVER used linux could install, configure through some sort of reasonable “wizard,” plug source files into and then go from there?

I’d recommend trying the Ubuntu server. I haven’t tried it myself (just Ubuntu Workstation), but Ubuntu is very newbie-friendly and has good community support at the forums (which are at www.ubuntu.com).
